This piece was first carved out of recycled wood. Then a “covcheg”, (the indented space that the painting is made in) meaning arc or protection, is carved into the wood. The paint has an extreme texture, and it literally reaches out into the viewers space. Because of the carved wood and texture, the painting becomes an object in our reality. The canvas has often been used throughout history as a place to escape into, rather than a place that is a part of our space. I wanted to make a painting that interacts and moves within our world.
